Therapy Services for Individuals

What is EAP?

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a ground-based, experiential therapy where clients interact with horses under the guidance of a licensed mental health professional and an equine specialist. The focus is on non-riding activities that encourage reflection, emotional awareness, and behavioral change.

Why Does EAP Work So Well?

  1. Horses Reflect Human Emotions
As prey animals, horses are highly sensitive to nonverbal cues. They often mirror a person’s emotional state, offering immediate, nonjudgmental feedback that helps clients become more aware of their inner experiences.

  2. Promotes Mindfulness and Presence
Working with horses requires focused attention and calm energy, which naturally encourages self-regulation and mindfulness—key components in managing anxiety, trauma, and emotional dysregulation.

  3. Safe, Nonverbal Connection
Horses provide a judgment-free space where clients can connect emotionally without pressure to speak. This can be especially healing for those who struggle with verbal expression or have experienced relational trauma.

  4. Metaphorical Learning
Many EAP activities serve as metaphors for real-life challenges—such as setting boundaries, building trust, or facing fears—making the insights gained deeply personal and transferable.

  5. Empowerment and Growth
Clients often experience a boost in confidence and self-efficacy as they learn to communicate clearly, assert boundaries, and build trust with the horses—skills that translate directly into their personal lives.
